ImageArmy Specialist Blake Lemoine, 25, served one year in Iraq. In Germany in 2004, he applied for Conscientious Objector status because “being in the U.S. Army at this day and time contradicts my religious beliefs.” In March, 2005, a military court convicted him of “refusing to perform duties.” He was sentenced to seven months confinement, reduction in rank to private and a bad conduct discharge. He was released in September 2005.
