Iraq comabt veteran and war resister, Darrell Anderson.

On Friday December 8, Courage to Resist and Marin Peace and Justice Coalition hosted a film showing of the ” The Ground Truth” at the College of Marin in Kentfield.

40 people braved the rain to attend the showing and meet Iraq combat veteran and war resister, Darrell Anderson and his mother Anita Dennis.Joining Darrell were members of Iraq Veterans Against the War Deployed an organization of Iraq-Era Veterans that are committed to ending the war and raising awareness on veterans issues through education, community building and direct actions. They are currently travelling the West Coast and joined Courage to Resist for the weekend of action to support GI Resistance and GI Rights in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Courage to Resist organizers, Jeff Paterson and Lori Hurlebaus, gave updates on current resisters and the importance of supporting the growing GI Resistance as a part of on-going anti-war work and embracing it as part of an effective strategy to end the war . Many were moved to tears as Anita Dennis explained her experience of letting her son go to fight in a war that she didn’t believe in and the pain of watching Darrell struggle with PTSD after returning from his deployment in Iraq. After the showing of the film people stayed to discuss the film and what steps to take next to end the war. People generously donated to Courage to Resist and IVAW Deployed, raising $1,000.
